Fleury and Crosby carry Penguins past Vancouver

Nov 18, 2010 - 4:38 AM Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29-of-30 shots as Pittsburgh snapped a four-game, decade-long home losing streak to Vancouver with a 3-1 decision at CONSOL Energy Center.

Sidney Crosby and Arron Asham also scored for the Penguins, who hadn't beaten the Canucks at home since February 14, 2000.

Maxime Talbot added a goal and one assist for Pittsburgh, which has won three of its last four overall.

"They're a good team and we've been playing some good hockey so we had to make sure we got the two points," Crosby admitted. "We played a great game, solid all the way through and got some timely goals."

Dam Hamhuis potted the lone goal for the Canucks, who have dropped two in a row and three of five. Roberto Luongo allowed all three goals on 29 shots for the loss.

Crosby's breakaway score with 3:17 left in the first period gave the Penguins the lead. The goal came seconds after the home team killed off his holding penalty.

"I saw there was a battle up high, and their d-man was watching the battle, so I was able to sneak in behind," Crosby said. "As soon as I came out, the puck was there."

Pittsburgh went up 2-0 on a Vancouver power play when Talbot picked up his own rebound, circled the net and stuffed a shot home from the right post at 5:43 of the second period.

It was 3-0 at 9:04 when Asham's stab at a floating puck in the crease made it over a sprawled Luongo before the net was dislodged, but 34 seconds later Hamhuis followed up a broken play in front and scored off a set play from the Sedin twins.

Fleury needed to make just six stops in the first period, halted the remaining 11 he saw in the second, and made the two-goal edge stand up in the third with 12 more saves.

"Our execution wasn't there," said Canucks forward Henrik Sedin. "We made all the mistakes, didn't get pucks in, on odd-man rushes kept the pucks on our sticks. That's about all there is."
