Blackhawks stay out west to battle Canucks
Nov 20, 2010 - 3:52 PM (Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks conclude the Canadian portion of their six-game road trip this evening as they visit Vancouver and Rogers Arena, where the Canucks have won six straight and have yet to lose in regulation this season.Chicago kicked off its trek with a 5-0 victory at Edmonton on Wednesday, getting 18 saves from netminder Marty Turco. However, he stopped just 29 of the 36 shots he faced in last night's 7-2 setback in Calgary.
Jack Skille and Troy Brouwer potted the goals for the Blackhawks, who have dropped four of their last six games and lost to the Flames for the first time in nine games.
"Calgary played well, they played hard, but we weren't up to par," Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said. "It was one of those games where there's nothing to be happy about."
Chicago also fell to 5-3-2 on the road and next visits San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles.
The Canucks return home after a 2-2-1 road trip in which they dropped the swing's final two games. Vancouver closed out the trek in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and suffered a 3-1 setback, its first on the road against the Penguins since Feb. 14, 2000.
Defenseman Dan Hamhuis potted the Canucks' lone goal, his second of the season and in his last three games, while Roberto Luongo gave up all three goals on 29 shots.
"Our execution wasn't there," said Canucks forward Henrik Sedin. "We made all the mistakes, didn't get pucks in, on odd-man rushes kept the pucks on our sticks. That's about all there is."
Vancouver now plays its next four at home, where it is 6-0-1 this season.
The Blackhawks captured a 2-1 shootout victory at home over the Canucks on Oct. 20, the first meeting between the clubs since the defending Stanley Cup champions eliminated Vancouver from the second round of last year's postseason.
Chicago has won three of four and six of the last 10 regular-season meetings, but has also dropped four of six and 12 of its last 15 in Vancouver not counting the playoffs.
Luongo is 4-2-1 with a 1.82 goals-against average in his last seven regular- season tests against the Blackhawks.
Turco owns a 19-7-2 mark and 1.88 GAA in his career versus the Canucks, making 36 saves in the shootout win for just his second victory in his last six games versus Vancouver.
Chicago backup Corey Crawford has never faced the Canucks.
