Iginla, Flames visit Red Wings

Nov 21, 2010 - 3:32 PM (Sports Network) - It took just one game for Jarome Iginla to double his goal total, but the Calgary Flames captain may find staying hot a chore this evening when his club faces the Detroit Red Wings for the third time this season.

Iginla has struggled at the onset of the 2010-11 season as he had just three goals over his first 17 games before recording his 11th career hat trick in Friday's 7-2 victory over the Blackhawks.

The 33-year-old forward hasn't scored in either of the Flames' two games versus the Red Wings this year and has lit the lamp just once in his last 23 contests against Detroit. Iginla has scored just 14 times in 54 career games when facing the Red Wings, so support similar to that of Friday's win would go a long way in helping Calgary snap a three-game slide to Detroit.

David Moss added a goal and two assists in the win over Chicago, Niklas Hagman, Curtis Glencross and Brendan Morrison all finished with a goal and a helper and Alex Tanguay set up three scores for the Flames, who snapped a three-game slide and won for just the second time in nine games.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves as Calgary is set to begin a five-game road trip tonight that is spread out over just seven days. The club is 3-5-0 as the guest this year.

"This is certainly a big win for us," Calgary head coach Brent Sutter said. "We'll enjoy this one tonight and start to get ready for our next game because they're coming very quickly."

The Flames have lost six of their last nine trips to Joe Louis Arena, where the Red Wings snapped a three-game series home losing streak with a 4-2 triumph on Oct. 21.

Kiprusoff has lost three straight versus the Red Wings and is 10-12-1 with a tie and 2.74 goals-against average when facing them lifetime.

Detroit will look to conclude a six-game homestand without a regulation loss this evening. After winning four straight, the Red Wings suffered a 4-3 overtime setback to the Wild on Friday.

Darren Helms, Johan Franzen and Patrick Eaves all scored to erase an early two-goal deficit before Minnesota netted a late equalizer to force overtime. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves, but yielded the game-winner with 42 seconds remaining in overtime.

"I thought we played a good game," Detroit head coach Mike Babcock said. "We did lots of good things. The puck didn't go in the net for us when we had our opportunities and it did for them."

Dan Cleary had a six-game goal-scoring streak halted. He had eight goals in that span.

Detroit is 8-1-2 at home this year, while Howard is 3-2-0 with a 2.01 GAA lifetime when facing Calgary.
