Flames continue road trip versus Rangers

Nov 22, 2010 - 4:13 PM (Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames will continue their road trip tonight in New York City as they battle the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The Flames began the five-game swing with Sunday's test in Detroit and the Red Wings skated away with a 5-4 overtime victory. It was the third straight road loss for Calgary, which is 3-5-1 as the guest this season.

Calgary has also dropped eight of its last 10 games, going 2-7-1 over that stretch. The Flames pounded Chicago, 7-2, on Friday in Calgary, but they dropped Sunday's game after Nicklas Lidstrom scored 1:38 into overtime to lift the Red Wings.

Jarome Iginla assisted on Calgary's opening goal and scored the next two as he continued his hot streak that started with a hat trick in Friday's victory over Chicago. Niklas Hagman and Alex Tanguay both scored a goal in the loss, while Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 33 shots.

Flames defenseman Robyn Regehr suffered a knee injury in Sunday's game and is questionable for tonight.

Calgary will continue its road trip with stops in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The Rangers have won four of their last six games and are coming off Saturday's victory in Minnesota.

New York was dealt its second straight loss with Friday's 5-1 thrashing at Colorado, but the Blueshirts rebounded the following night in St. Paul.

Brandon Dubinsky tallied a breakaway goal early in the third period and Martin Biron made 26 stops as the Rangers downed Minnesota, 5-2, at Xcel Energy Center.

Artem Anisimov, Michael Del Zotto, Ruslan Fedotenko and Alex Frolov also tallied for the Rangers, who are 7-3-0 on the road this year compared to a 4- 6-1 mark in the Big Apple.

"We're playing really well on the road. There's been a few hiccups here and there but overall we've grown comfortable with the system," Biron admitted. "It suits us well when we keep it down in their zone. We're solid between the hashmarks and quick on the puck. That was the key again tonight."

Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival missed his sixth straight game with a sprained right shoulder, but is expected to return at some point this week. He is questionable for tonight's tilt.

Following this evening's contest as the host, the Rangers will head out on a three-game road trip beginning with Wednesday's game in Tampa.

Calgary posted a 3-1 win over a visiting Rangers club in the only meeting between the teams last season. The Flames have taken three in a row and four out of five overall in this series and have also won two of three in NYC.

Former Ranger and current Calgary centerman Olli Jokinen will miss tonight's game while serving the final test of a three-game suspension for cross- checking Phoenix's Wojtek Wolski in the head. He is eligible to return for Wednesday's game at New Jersey.
