Christensen, Rangers beat Predators in SO

Nov 28, 2010 - 8:27 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Erik Christensen scored the only goal in the shootout after Ryan Callahan scored the equalizer late in the third period, as the New York Rangers took a 2-1 win over Nashville.

Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves for the Rangers, who were coming off Friday's 3-0 win over Florida. Lundqvist got the shutout in that victory, and made a save on all three Predators shooters to secure Saturday's win.

Colin Wilson scored the lone goal for Nashville, which has dropped four in a row -- a streak that includes Wednesday's shootout loss to St. Louis. Pekka Rinne stopped 23-of-24 shots.

"Real frustrating for the guys, because they wanted the two points and they felt that they should have had two points, and should have had two points against St. Louis," said Predators head coach Barry Trotz.

Christensen started the shootout, and used a wide-swinging backhand-to- forehand move to get around Rinne near the crease, then put the puck across the goal line.

Lundqvist stopped Cal O'Reilly and Marcel Goc before making a glove save on Martin Erat's wrister to secure the win.

"I tried to be patient; it worked out good today," Lundqvist said. "They made a couple good moves, but as a goalie you try to be patient all the time and you have a lot better chance to win it."

Wilson got Nashville on the board with a snap shot at 5:10 in the first period, and Rinne made the lead stick by stopping all 18 shots he faced through two periods.

But with time winding down, New York applied consistent pressure in the Predators' zone, keeping Nashville from clearing, and the effort paid off. Rinne kept the first few shots out of net, but Callahan's shot from the slot was deflected before getting past the goaltender with 6:56 to play.
