Coyotes hope to rebound in Nashville

Nov 30, 2010 - 4:12 PM (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes had a lengthy winning streak snapped in their last trip to the ice, but the club will try to get back on track tonight when it visits the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

The Coyotes had won seven straight before losing Saturday's home test against the Anaheim Ducks. It was the first regulation loss since Nov. 5 for Phoenix, which had a 7-0-2 record in the nine games prior to Saturday's setback.

Phoenix was leading the Ducks by a 3-1 score in the second period before Anaheim exploded for five unanswered goals. Bobby Ryan recorded a hat trick by scoring three times during the five-goal barrage.

Shane Doan had three helpers for the Coyotes, while Derek Morris, Scottie Upshall, Lauri Korpikoski and Keith Yandle each notched goals in the loss. Phoenix netminder Ilya Bryzgalov allowed all six goals on 25 shots.

"It's one of those things where we're pushing too much without the puck," Doan said. "With that team, you give them that many opportunities they're going to beat you."

The Coyotes are 6-3-2 on the road this season and have won their last four games away from the desert. However, Phoenix has not fared well in Nashville, losing four of its last five in the Music City.

Phoenix is 2-10 with one tie in its last 13 games in Nashville, but the Coyotes have won four of five overall in the series. Dave Tippett's club also notched a 4-3 win when they hosted the Predators on Nov. 3.

Nashville has lost its last four games, going 0-2-2 during the stretch. The Predators dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the visiting New York Rangers on Saturday, marking the fifth time Nashville has gone to a shootout in its last nine games.

The Rangers tied the game at 2-2 late in the third period on a goal by Ryan Callahan and Erik Christensen scored the only goal in the shootout to lift New York to the win.

Colin Wilson scored the lone goal for Nashville, which also has a shootout loss against St. Louis during this slide. Pekka Rinne stopped 23-of-24 shots in the tough-luck loss.

"Real frustrating for the guys, because they wanted the two points and they felt that they should have had two points, and should have had two points against St. Louis," said Predators head coach Barry Trotz.

Nashville will try to avoid matching its longest losing streak of the season tonight. The Preds lost five straight from Oct. 28-Nov. 7, but all of the setbacks came in regulation.

Predators defenseman Cody Franson suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's loss and is questionable for tonight's game. Nashville forward David Legwand has missed the last five games with a lower-body injury and is also questionable.

Nashville is 3-1-5 as the host this year and has lost six of its last seven games on home ice.
