Raymond records hat trick as Canucks crush Flames
Dec 2, 2010 - 5:52 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mason Raymond recorded his second career hat trick and added an assist to spearhead Vancouver's 7-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.Daniel Sedin, Alexandre Burrows, Jeff Tambellini and Dan Hamhuis also found the back of the net for the Canucks, who have won three straight games after an 0-3-1 stretch.
"It was an important two points for us, being a divisional game," said Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault.
Roberto Luongo made 18 saves in the win.
Alex Tanguay and Tim Jackman scored for Calgary, which has dropped five of its last seven games. Miikka Kiprusoff surrendered all seven goals on 36 shots.
The Canucks got on the board two minutes into the contest. Raymond circled behind the Calgary net and threw a shot on goal that went in off the skate of Flames defenseman Brendan Mikkelson.
Tambellini made it 2-0 when he collected a rebound in the slot and beat Kiprusoff with a shot along the ice at the 8:51 mark of the first period.
Jackman's redirection of a Mark Giordano shot put Calgary on the board midway through the opening frame.
Sedin netted a power-play goal to make it a 3-1 lead at 3:05 of the middle stanza. The Flames trimmed their deficit to one when Tanguay fired the puck from behind the goal line off the back of Luongo a little over three minutes later.
Raymond scored on a shorthanded breakaway to give Vancouver its third two-goal advantage 63 seconds into the third period, and it became 5-2 on Burrows' tally at 6:16.
Raymond and Hamhuis scored power-play goals 2:19 apart later in the period.
"What stings the most is the way we handled our third period," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.
Game Notes
Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin recorded two assists to surpass 600 career points...The Canucks improved to 6-1-0 against the Northwest Division...Vancouver and Calgary split six meetings last year...The Canucks have outscored the opposition 35-18 in the third period this season.
