Bryzgalov, Coyotes shutout Anaheim
Dec 6, 2010 - 4:34 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ilya Bryzgalov made 26 saves to record his second shutout of the season, as the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Anaheim Ducks, 3-0, at Honda Center.Taylor Pyatt, Shane Doan and Lee Stempniak each had a goal for the Coyotes, who have won nine of their last 12 games.
"I thought our team game was pretty strong," said Phoenix head coach Dave Tippett. "We managed to protect the puck pretty well. I thought we played a really good, solid road game and we were able to get a goal in each period and not give up any. It was a good night for us."
Jonas Hiller stopped 36 shots for Anaheim, which was blanked for the second consecutive game. The Ducks have dropped eight of 11 overall.
"It's frustrating when you're out there trying to work as hard as you can and things aren't happening," said Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf.
Pyatt deflected Sami Lepisto's one-timer from the right point behind Hiller to give Phoenix a 1-0 lead at the 10:59 mark of the first period.
Doan netted a power-play goal in the middle frame. Keith Yandle fired a shot that rebounded off Hiller's pad. Doan collected the puck at the bottom of the right circle and fired it past the Anaheim goaltender at 17:23.
Stempniak, playing in his 400th career game, sealed the win with an empty-net tally at 17:04 of the third period.
