Flames double up Lightning

Dec 8, 2010 - 7:07 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Rene Bourque had a goal and two assists as the Calgary Flames took a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Cory Sarich, Jarome Iginla and Tom Kostopoulos each had a goal for the Flames, who had dropped six of their last nine. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 22 shots in the win.

"We've got to keep rolling," Bourque said. "It seems like we win one, we lose one. We need an effort like this in Los Angeles. We need to streak some wins together."

Johan Harju and Ryan Malone each lit the lamp for the Lightning, who have lost four of six. Dan Ellis was charged with all four goals on 19 shots.

"We played the second, we played the third, but when you waste 20 minutes, you have a tendency not to come back," said Lightning head coach Guy Boucher. "Even if you do come back, it doesn't excuse the first period and doesn't make us worthy of winning this game."

Sarich made it a 1-0 game 7:21 into the contest when his big blast from the right point got past Ellis.

Kostopoulos, who Calgary acquired from Carolina last month, scored his first goal as a Flame with 6:14 left in the first. He banged in the puck from the right side after Bourque's shot bounced off the back boards.

The Flames made it a 3-0 game with a pretty play at the 4:43 mark of the second. Mikael Backlund skated the puck into the Tampa end down the right wing and left a drop pass for Curtis Glencross at the top of the right circle. Glencross then fired the puck to the slot, where Bourque shot it home.

Tampa got on the board when Pavel Kubina sent a lead pass for Harju, who slid a low shot from the left circle between Kiprusoff's pads for his first NHL goal. The score made it a 3-1 game at the 8:35 mark of the second.

With exactly one minute left in the period, Malone jammed the puck in net from in front, getting the Lightning within one.

Iginla, though, got the Flames' two-goal edge back with a power-play score, a one-timer from the left circle with 11:18 to play.

Kiprusoff needed to make just seven saves in the final frame to preserve the win.
