Bruins visit Sabres in Northeast Division clash
Dec 15, 2010 - 4:27 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins have yet to lose in regulation this month and the B's will try to keep that streak alive tonight, when they visit the Buffalo Sabres for a Northeast Division clash at HSBC Arena.Boston lost an overtime decision to Philadelphia on Saturday, but the Bruins still enter tonight with a 4-0-2 record and Claude Julien's club hasn't been defeated in regulation since Nov. 28 in Atlanta.
The Bruins have lost three of their last five road games, but they are a solid 9-3-1 as the visiting club on the season. Boston will play in Montreal tomorrow before returning to TD Garden for a three-game homestand.
Boston lost in dramatic fashion to the Flyers on Saturday as Mike Richards scored with three seconds left in overtime to deliver a 2-1 victory for Philadelphia.
Marc Savard turned the puck over on Richards' game-winning goal, adding to his rough start to the season.
"I just, you know, I just threw it back to the point and obviously, it was my fault there," said Savard about his gaffe. "I just thought [Dennis] Seidenberg was back there and he was in the middle more, so I just made a bad play."
Savard made his season debut on Dec. 2 after missing the first two months of the season with post-concussion syndrome. He has just one assist and is a minus-3 in five games since returning.
Nathan Horton scored the lone goal on Saturday for the Bruins and Tim Thomas took the loss despite making 31 saves.
Rookie forward Tyler Seguin missed Saturday's game with flu-like symptoms, but could be back in the lineup tonight.
The Sabres will try to bounce back from their first regulation loss of the month when they take the ice tonight. Buffalo began December with a 3-0-1 mark, but was then dealt a 5-2 loss Saturday by the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jason Pominville and Tyler Ennis each had a goal for the Sabres, while Ryan Miller was tagged for four goals on 23 shots.
"We lost, we weren't good enough out there," said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. "We had some costly turnovers out there. We created turnovers that we didn't finish. Give them credit, they took advantage of their turnovers. We weren't good enough."
Ruff hopes to have one of his offensive weapons back tonight as forward Tim Connolly aims to return after missing the previous eight games with a groin injury. Connolly, who has five goals and eight assists this year, is questionable for tonight.
Sabres forward Drew Stafford has missed the last four games with an upper-body injury and is also questionable for tonight.
Boston is 2-0 against the Sabres this year and the Bruins notched a 3-2 overtime victory when the clubs met in Beantown on Dec. 7. Mark Recchi scored the game-winner in that contest and the 42-year-old winger has 26 goals and 71 points in 85 career games against Buffalo.
The Bruins have won three straight and four out of five against the Sabres overall and Boston has taken three of its last four games in western New York.
