Wilson helps Nashville edge San Jose
Dec 16, 2010 - 6:27 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Colin Wilson scored the game-winner with 2:32 left to play to help Nashville defeat San Jose, 3-2, at Bridgestone Arena.Nashville, which has won four straight, rallied during the third period with a pair of goals within 44 seconds of each other. Sergei Kostitsyn scored the game-tying goal, while Jordin Tootoo posted a second-period goal.
Anders Lindback turned away 25-of-27 shots to improve his record to 5-0-1 since he replaced Pekka Rinne, who suffered a knee injury at the beginning of December.
"It's just building our confidence and we know we can turn it around in these kind of games," Lindback said.
Niclas Wallin and Dany Heatley both notched goals for the Sharks, who have lost three of their last four games. Antti Niemi stopped 32 shots in the loss.
Nashville tied the game when Shea Weber took the puck down the right side and centered a hard pass to Kostitsyn, who tipped it past Niemi with 3:16 to play.
Just 44 seconds later, Wilson got the game-winner on a rush led by Steve Sullivan, who passed it cross-ice to Wilson. He then chipped the disc in the wide open net.
"We made some key mistakes at key times," Sharks captain Joe Thornton said. "They always say the most important shift is the one after a goal and they won that shift."
The Sharks went on the man advantage during the final 1:52 after a delay of game call on Tootoo when he flipped the puck over the glass and Niemi was pulled for the extra attacker. The Predators, however, kept the equalizer out of the net.
The Sharks got on the board at 7:25 of the first period when Wallin -- off a Benn Ferriero pass -- sent a booming slap shot from the top of the left circle that soared past Lindback.
Tootoo knotted the game at the 12:14 mark of the second stanza with an unassisted goal.
However, San Jose took back the lead on the power play with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the same period. Thornton set up the goal with a centering pass to Heatley, whose wrister found the back of the net.
