Ducks hope to extend win streak versus Islanders

Dec 16, 2010 - 4:36 PM (Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks will aim for a fourth consecutive victory when they visit the lowly New York Islanders this evening at Nassau Coliseum.

In addition to winning their last three games, the Ducks have also gone five straight without a regulation loss, posting a 4-0-1 record during that span.

Anaheim began its longest road trip of the season last night in Washington and the Ducks recorded a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Capitals. Ryan Getzlaf scored the game-winning goal with 57 seconds left in overtime when he wristed a shot from the left circle that went high past Semyon Varlamov.

"It was a one-on-one situation on the boards," Getzlaf said. "I was kind of waiting for help and I was able to get loose for a second and get a shot through."

Joffrey Lupul had the other goal for Anaheim, while Jonas Hiller had 31 saves in the win.

"When you play such a skilled team like Washington you have to play together," Hiller said.

Tonight marks the second of seven straight on the road for the Ducks, who are 6-7-3 as the visiting team this season. Anaheim will visit Carolina this Saturday before making stops in Boston, Buffalo, Los Angeles and Phoenix.

Ducks winger Teemu Selanne has missed the last three games because of a groin injury and is questionable for tonight's contest.

The Islanders, meanwhile, have managed just one win in nearly two months and are also currently locked in a six-game losing streak.

New York's latest setback came Monday evening in Nashville, as the Predators routed the Islanders, 5-0. Patric Hornqvist scored two goals and rookie Anders Lindback made 28 saves to record the shutout at Bridgestone Arena.

Dwayne Roloson stopped 21 shots for the Islanders, who are 1-17-3 in their last 21 games and are dead last in the NHL with just 15 points on the year.

Tonight's tilt is the first of a three-game homestand for the Isles, who are 3-7-2 as the host this year and have lost three straight at the Coliseum since beating the New Jersey Devils there on Nov. 26.

The Isles lost a 1-0 regulation decision in Anaheim on Nov. 10, marking the third win in the last four meetings for the Ducks. However, Anaheim has lost three of its last four tests on Long Island.
