Wild down Flames to sweep home-and-home

Dec 21, 2010 - 3:37 AM St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Martin Havlat registered a goal and an assist, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames to sweep a home-and-home series at Xcel Energy Center.

Cal Clutterbuck added an empty-net goal and an assist for the Wild, who also defeated the Flames in Calgary on Saturday. Kyle Brodziak and John Madden also added a goal apiece in the win, while Niklas Backstrom stopped 34 shots.

Olli Jokinen scored the only goal for Calgary, which lost its fourth straight road game. Miikka Kiprusoff allowed all three goals on 22 shots in defeat.

The game was tied at 1-1 heading into the third before Minnesota scored three times in the final 20 minutes to put the game away.

Havlat netted the game-winner 6:13 into the third when he took a Clutterbuck feed down low, skated toward the net and stuffed the puck past Kiprusoff for a power play marker.

Minnesota increased its lead to two at the midway point of the period on Madden's fifth goal of the year, a wrist shot on the power play.

Backstrom stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period, and Clutterback's empty-net tally with 46 seconds left capped the scoring.

Brodziak opened the scoring 9:18 into the first period when he grabbed a Marco Scandella rebound in front of Kiprusoff and wrapped it around the netminder and into the net.

Jokinen evened the score 3:23 into the second with a shot from low in the right circle that trickled underneath Backstrom.

Game Notes

The Wild lead the season series, 3-2...Minnesota finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while Calgary was 0-for-4...The Wild had lost three straight at home.
