Elliott leads Sens to win in Nashville

Dec 24, 2010 - 8:20 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Brian Elliott made 25 saves to backstop the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

Alex Kovalev and Nick Foligno lit the lamp for the Senators, who won for just the third time in their last eight games.

"It's just a good road win," Senators coach Cory Clouston said. "The power play got us the winning goal. I thought we played a real solid period in the third. It's a nice way to go into the Christmas break."

Marcel Goc found the back of the net for Nashville, which has dropped three straight on the heels of a five-game win streak.

Pekka Rinne stopped 28 shots in defeat. He made his first start since December 1 after undergoing knee surgery.

"Tonight we were better defensively," Predators coach Barry Trotz said. "It was a little bit of a challenge, but we didn't have any finish tonight."

Kovalev found space in the slot and hammered Peter Regin's pass from behind the net past Rinne to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead at the 9:35 mark of the first period.

Foligno's power-play goal made it 2-0 at 4:58 of the middle stanza, but Goc scored on a redirection to put Nashville on the board less than three minutes later.

The Predators mustered only seven shots over the final 20 minutes.

Game Notes

Nashville fell to 7-2-4 against the Eastern Conference this season...Ottawa finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Predators went scoreless on their four chances with the extra skater...Ottawa has won its last two games in Tennessee's capital, including a 2-0 decision on February 16, 2009.
