Flames slip past Leafs in SO

Jan 16, 2011 - 4:46 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored in the fourth round of a shootout, lifting the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 victory over Toronto.

Jokinen beat Jean-Sebastien Giguere in the top left corner after a nice deke move, skating in on the right side but moving left for the score.

Matt Stajan scored in regulation for Calgary, ending a 0-0 deadlock with 6:53 remaining in the third period.

Mikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves, including three in overtime, and the Flames captured their second straight win on the heels of a four-game losing streak.

Kiprusoff stoned Tyler Bozak on a shorthanded breakaway in overtime and made a nice poke-check save on Mikhail Grabovski in the fourth round of the shootout.

Grabovski beat him on a power-play stuff with 13 seconds left in regulation for Toronto's only goal. Giguere also had 32 saves for the Maple Leafs, who have lost two straight on the heels of a four-game winning streak.

It took more than 2 1/2 periods and four whacks of the stick for the game's first goal. Stajan hammered the puck in with a backhand to make it 1-0 at the 13:07 mark of the third.

With time running down, Kiprusoff made an initial save while Toronto was on a power play following Ales Kotalik's hooking penalty. But Grabovski was on the doorstep for the rebound to tie the game.

Bozak's breakaway in overtime came while Toronto was shorthanded in the wake of a hooking call on Nikolai Kulemin. He carried the puck across the neutral zone near the left boards, then crossed in front of the net to the right side, but was turned aside by Kiprusoff.

"I thought it went in at first. I was about to celebrate," said Bozak. "I'm not even sure what happened."

Game Notes

The Maple Leafs are just 9-10-4 as the home team this season...Bozak and Colby Armstrong scored for Toronto in the shootout, while Alex Tanguay and Kotalik also lit the lamp for Calgary.
