Quick helps Kings blank Bruins
Jan 25, 2011 - 7:19 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick turned aside 34 shots to record his career-high fifth shutout of the season, and the Los Angeles Kings downed the Boston Bruins, 2-0, at Staples Center.Ryan Smyth and Andrei Loktionov provided the offense for Los Angeles, which improved to 4-8-0 in January with its second consecutive win.
"That was a good game," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "That was a good performance by everybody tonight. There was a lot of compete, a lot of skating."
Tim Thomas made 32 saves for the Bruins, who suffered their first regulation loss on the road since December 16 at Montreal. Boston had gone 6-0-3 in its last nine games as the visitor.
"I didn't think we generated as much offense as we normally do," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "Give the other team credit for that because they did a good job minimizing that. We didn't get too many screens or traffic in front of Quick."
The Kings got on the board via the power play. Smyth parked himself outside the crease and tipped Jarret Stoll's one-timer from the left point. Thomas made the initial save, but Smyth banged home the rebound at the 10:50 mark of the first period.
Loktionov netted an insurance goal from in close at 3:30 of the third period.
