Blake's 200th career goal keys Anaheim's win in Columbus
Jan 26, 2011 - 3:24 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Jason Blake scored his 200th career NHL goal in his 800th game, and the Anaheim Ducks capped a four-game road trip with a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.Saku Koivu and Lubomir Visnovsky both collected two assists for the Ducks, who have won seven of their last nine games. Jonas Hiller made 35 saves to record his league-leading 25th win of the season.
"We earned the hockey game, we earned our points," said Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle.
Rick Nash and Derick Brassard scored power-play goals for Columbus, which saw its point streak (3-0-2) end at five games. Steve Mason stopped 19 shots in defeat.
Koivu won a battle for the puck behind the Columbus net and dished to Blake, who came around the left post and whipped a backhander past Mason to give Anaheim a 3-1 lead at the 4:38 mark of the third period.
Brassard buried a rebound at 9:54 to draw the Blue Jackets within a goal. Columbus summoned Mason to the bench late in regulation, but couldn't net an equalizer.
Teemu Selanne and rookie Cam Fowler put Anaheim ahead 2-0 with power-play goals 61 seconds apart, cashing in on a boarding major assessed to Columbus forward Derek Dorsett.
Bobby Ryan found Selanne for an easy tap-in at 4:12 of the first period, then Fowler -- with the help of a Ryan screen -- let go a slap shot that beat Mason.
The Blue Jackets' power-play unit struck late in the opening frame. Just as a two-man advantage expired, Nash snapped a wrister off a nice feed by Brassard through traffic and behind Hiller with 2:18 remaining.
"It was a tough start there giving up two goals right away," said Columbus head coach Scott Arniel. "Hiller was outstanding and we had a lot of opportunities to get that game evened up when it was 2-1. We played hard. We got behind the eight-ball, but didn't stop playing."
