Rinne, Predators blank Red Wings

Feb 6, 2011 - 7:59 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Pekka Rinne stopped 35 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and Sergei Kostitsyin scored twice as Nashville downed Detroit, 3-0, at Bridgestone Arena.

Shea Weber had a goal and Ryan Suter added two assists for the Predators, who snapped a four-game slide.

Joey MacDonald was tagged for all three goals on 29 shots for the Red Wings, who have dropped their past two games.

Nashville got the only goal it needed 3:18 in on the power play when Weber let fly with a slap shot from the right circle that sailed past MacDonald.

Kostitsyin scored a shorthanded goal with 5:57 to play in the second to give Nashville a 2-0 lead.

The last goal of the game came with 2:21 to play as Kostitsyin sent a hard pass from the left wing to the low right side where it went off a Red Wing and trickled past MacDonald.

Rinne made 17 of his stops in the third period to preserve the win and the shutout.

"The guys that were out there did a great job in terms of the battle," Nashville head coach Barry Trotz said of his penalty killers."

Nashville hosts Edmonton on Monday...The Red Wings host the Rangers on Monday...Nashville has taken two of three from Detroit this season...Rinne has 18 shutouts in his career.
