Dubnyk's first career shutout sends Oilers past Preds

Feb 8, 2011 - 8:40 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Devan Dubnyk made 37 saves to notch his first career shutout in Edmonton's 4-0 dismantling of Nashville at Bridgestone Arena.

The 24-year-old netminder stopped 16 shots in the first period, six in the second and then 15 more in the third to help the Oilers halt a four-game losing streak.

"Dooby did a good job of keeping us in there," said Edmonton forward Shawn Horcoff.

Jim Vandermeer, Dustin Penner and Ryan Jones all scored for the Oilers, who won just for the second time in 11 outings. Andrew Cogliano notched a goal and an assist in the win.

The Predators had a big let down following a 3-0 victory on Saturday against division-leading Detroit and have now lost five of their last six contests overall.

"We didn't take this team for granted. We knew they were a fast, young hockey team coming off quite a few losses," Predators forward Steve Sullivan said of the Oilers. "We were ready for them. (But) we didn't score early and we just let them hang around."

Pekka Rinne gave up four goals on 20 shots before getting replaced in the third period by Anders Lindback, who only saw two shots and stopped them both.

Cogliano put the Oilers on the board by cleaning up a rebound off of Jordan Eberle's backhander with just over 5 1/2 minutes left in the first period.

After another 14 1/2 scoreless minutes in the second period, Colin Fraser charged down the right boards and used a cross-ice pass to connect with Jones, who chipped the puck under the pads of Rinne for a two-goal edge.

Edmonton made it a 3-0 contest just 4:35 into the final frame game when Vandermeer unloaded a rising slapper from the left point, which veered into the net past crowd of players in front of the crease.

Penners's goal a little more than two minutes later left to play blew the game open at 4-0. The forward picked up an Ales Hemsky pass off the left boards, and while streaking toward the net, switched to the backhand and then wrapped a forehander around the Predators netminder.

After the goal, Lindback came in to replace Rinne, however, was never challenged since the Oilers had a comfortable lead.

Edmonton defenseman Tom Gilbert left the game and did not return...The Oilers stopped a four-game losing streak to Nashville...Edmonton will begin a six-game homestand Wednesday night against Chicago...Nashville will travel to Detroit on Wednesday...Taylor Hall had two assists for the Oilers.
