Canucks double up Flames
Feb 13, 2011 - 7:46 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Mikael Samuelsson tallied a pair of second- period goals as Vancouver got past Calgary, 4-2, at Rogers Arena.Alexandre Burrows posted the other two scores for the Canucks, who have taken seven of their last eight games. Mason Raymond and Manny Malhotra added two assists each for the victorious home team.
Roberto Luongo made 24 saves for Vancouver, which opened up a four-point lead on idle Philadelphia (81-77) for the best record in the NHL.
Tim Jackman and Curtis Glencross scored for the Flames, who have lost two games in a row after winning eight of the prior nine.
Miikka Kiprusoff allowed three goals on 32 shots in defeat.
The first of Samuelsson's two scores came at 10:40 of the second period, when he redirected a Raymond pass for a 2-2 tie.
He then provided Vancouver with a one-goal lead almost three minutes later, with a power-play blast from the bottom of the left circle.
"Pucks [are going] in for me now. I had chances before, didn't bury them," Samuelsson said. "But that's how a season goes, I think. Goes up and down, just have to stay with it."
Luongo was not seriously tested in the third period despite consecutive Calgary power plays.
Burrows shot the clincher into an empty net with 42 seconds remaining.
Vancouver hit the scoreboard with a power-play goal almost 11 minutes into the contest, as Burrows successfully potted a Raymond pass at the left post.
Calgary equalized at 2:11 of the second period, when Jackman found a muted Matt Stajan pass and whipped a shot by Luongo. The Flames moved ahead a little more than two minutes later on a Glencross tally.
