Ducks hope to post perfect road trip in Edmonton

Feb 13, 2011 - 3:59 PM (Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks will attempt to conclude a four-game road trip perfect and pick up a sixth straight victory as the visiting club tonight when they visit the skidding Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

The Ducks have won three straight and 13 of their last 17 overall to move into a tie with the Sharks for sixth place in the Western Conference. The two teams are also just two points behind first-place Dallas in the Pacific Division.

After picking up victories in Colorado and Vancouver to being this trek, Anaheim claimed a 5-4 overtime win at Calgary on Friday thanks to rookie defenseman Cam Fowler's goal with 18.6 seconds left in overtime. Teemu Selanne helped set up the goal, one of his three assists in the game, and also tied the contest with 2:07 remaining in the third period on Anaheim's lone power play of the game.

"We were so fortunate that we got one power play tonight and we took advantage of it and tied the hockey game," said Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle.

Saku Koivu added two goals and an assist for the Ducks, who are 14-13-3 on the road this year.

Though No. 1 goaltender Jonas Hiller was activated off injured reserve before the game, Curtis McElhinney got his third start in a row and made 21 saves. Hiller had been out the last two games due to fatigue and lightheadedness.

It is unknown who will get the start tonight. Hiller is 6-2-0 with a 2.31 goals-against average versus the Oilers, while McElhinney is 4-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA.

Edmonton may not offer much of a challenge to Anaheim's perfect road trip as the it has lost six in a row at home. Yesterday's 5-3 setback to the Senators was the Oilers' sixth loss in seven games overall and 20th in their past 24 games.

Dustin Penner scored two goals for Edmonton, which is last in the NHL with 40 points. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 20-of-24 shots in defeat, his 14th in a row.

"We felt like we were in the game, we could have easily won," said Edmonton forward Andrew Cogliano, who also scored.

Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff did not play due to bronchitis.

Edmonton has dropped the first two of a six-game homestand and could go back with Devan Dubnyk in net tonight.

Dubnyk owns the Oilers' only win over the Ducks in the past eight meetings, a 38-save road victory on Nov. 21. Edmonton has lost both matchups in this series since and has dropped six straight at home to Anaheim.
