Kings notch rare win in Philly behind Quick's shutout
Feb 14, 2011 - 12:24 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick lived up to his surname Sunday, stopping all 40 shots he faced in Los Angeles' 1-0 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.Drew Doughty scored the lone goal 17 seconds into the second period for the Kings, who posted a regulation win in Philadelphia for the first time since April 1, 1993. The Flyers had gone 9-0-1 in their last 10 home games against the Kings.
"I liked the way we did things the right way with our top players and our goaltending, which was outstanding," said Kings head coach Terry Murray.
Los Angeles improved to 4-0-2 on its current 10-game road trip. The Kings are now 7-0-2 in their last nine games overall.
Rookie Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves for Philadelphia, which had its winning streak snapped at three games.
"I think our execution wasn't the best today," said Flyers forward Danny Briere. "But we threw a lot of pucks on net. I thought we did a good job going to the net. They have big defensemen. They are physical in front there. We battled it out, and for some reason we just couldn't find [the loose pucks]."
The teams combined for 27 shots -- 15 by the Flyers -- in the opening 20 minutes.
Doughty put Los Angeles on the board when he moved in from his point position, gathered Anze Kopitar's feed from the right corner and fired a shot past Bobrovsky. It was his seventh goal of the season, the most by a Kings defenseman.
Quick turned aside 10 shots in the middle frame and another 15 in the third period to preserve his sixth shutout of the 2010-11 campaign, extending a career high.
