Marchand scores twice as Bruins down Senators

Feb 19, 2011 - 4:43 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Brad Marchand scored twice as Boston used a three-goal third period to dispatch Ottawa, 4-2, at Scotiabank Place.

Nathan Horton and Dennis Seidenberg also hit the net for the Bruins, who have won two in a row to begin their six-game road trip that continues on Tuesday in Calgary.

Tuukka Rask earned his third win in four starts with 32 saves as Boston extended its lead in the Northeast Division to four points (73-69) over idle Montreal.

Bobby Butler and Alex Kovalev tallied for the Senators, who have lost two in a row and 13 of their last 14.

Robin Lehner dropped his fourth straight decision after yielding all four goals on 33 shots.

Horton put the Bruins ahead 2-1 just before the midway point of the third period on a goal that probably shouldn't have counted.

Milan Lucic glided into the Ottawa zone a half-step ahead of puck-carrier David Krejci, who dished to the left wing for a laser by Horton for his 15th goal of the year.

Seidenberg made it a two-goal edge on a power-play blast with 4:40 left in regulation, then Marchand struck again only 32 seconds later to provide a three-goal margin for the visitors.

Kovalev's man-advantage deflection of a Filip Kuba shot pulled the Senators to 4-2 with 90 seconds to play, but Ottawa didn't come close to scoring with the extra attacker in the final minute.

Following a scoreless first period, the Senators got on the board at 2:50 of the second when Jason Spezza fed Butler for a knuckling wrister than sailed over Rask's shoulder.

"We were in it and we played pretty good," Spezza said. "It's just tough to win a game when you miss opportunities."

Boston countered at 6:47, when Marchand ripped a shot under the crossbar from the right circle.

"It's no secret to me," Lucic said of Marchand's play. "He knows exactly what to do and he's got a great shot."

The Bruins have won three of the four meetings with the Senators this season, two by shutout...Earlier on Friday, the Sens and Avs swapped goaltenders, with Brian Elliott heading to Denver and Craig Anderson arriving in Canada's capital...The Bruins pulled off a major deal, acquiring veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle from the Maple Leafs for a prospect forward, a first-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012...Boston also acquired forward Rich Peverley and defenseman Boris Valabik from Atlanta for forward Blake Wheeler and defenseman Mark Stuart.
