Tampa Bay tops surging Devils

Feb 26, 2011 - 5:12 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Dwayne Roloson made 19 stops as Tampa Bay took a 2-1 win over the scorching New Jersey Devils.

The Devils came into the game having won eight straight and lost for just the second time in regulation since a four-game slide to start January. New Jersey is now 16-2-2 since January 8.

Martin St. Louis and Simon Gagne scored less than a minute apart in the second period to help the Lightning win a second straight game.

Tampa Bay finished its NHL-record tying 12-game homestand with a mark of 7-3-2.

"We just beat two of the hottest teams in the NHL," said Tampa forward Steven Stamkos. "It's a good way to end this homestand."

Mark Fayne lit the lamp while Johan Hedberg stopped 28 shots for the Devils, who will look to rebound from the loss on Sunday in Florida.

After a scoreless first period, Tampa scored twice early in the second frame off of faceoff wins.

The first came 2:20 in as a left circle faceoff victory saw St. Louis snap the puck into the net for his 23rd goal of the season.

Moments later, a right circle draw went back to Gagne, who wristed the puck over the glove of Hedberg for a 2-0 lead.

Roloson stopped all five shots he saw in the second.

Fayne scored on a slap shot from the right circle at the 8:13 mark of the third, but New Jersey was unable to net the equalizer.

Game Notes

New Jersey had won six straight at Tampa Bay and 12 of 13, overall, in the series...Tampa now hits the road for three games starting in New York against the Rangers on Sunday...There was just three penalties in the game, two from New Jersey.
