Bruins continue recent dominance over Oilers

Feb 28, 2011 - 5:47 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Rich Peverley notched the game-winning score late in the second period as Boston extended its winning streak over Edmonton to nine straight games with a 3-2 decision at Rexall Place.

Michael Ryder and Nathan Horton also tallied for the Bruins, who have reeled off wins in each of the first five outings of a six-game road trip that ends in Ottawa on Tuesday.

Tuukka Rask got the win despite making just 15 saves.

"When we play good defensively, that's when we play our best hockey," Ryder said. "We take away the other team's speed, and we knew the Oilers tonight have a lot of speed up front. If we limit that we'll stop their chances."

Ales Hemsky and Gilbert Brule scored for the Oilers, who have dropped three of four. Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on 40 shots in defeat.

"They're a pretty good team, but we competed and we didn't let numbers bother us in terms of shots on goal or chances against or anything like that," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney.

Peverley, acquired from Atlanta nine days ago in a multi-player deal, gave the Bruins a 3-1 advantage with 52 seconds to play in the second period when he worked a give-and-go with Ryder and beat Dubnyk from in tight on the forehand.

Brule made it a one-goal contest at 3:14 of the third period, but it was only one of five Oilers shots in the final 20 minutes. Edmonton went with an extra skater for the final 90 seconds to no avail.

Hemsky gave the Oilers the lead just 65 seconds after the opening face-off, but the Bruins struck twice before the end of the period.

Ryder scored with a shot to the short side and under the crossbar with 4 1/2 minutes remaining, then David Krejci found Horton alone on the right side for a 2-1 game with 1:21 left.

Game Notes
