Price, Habs shut out Panthers
Mar 4, 2011 - 7:37 AM Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Carey Price stopped all 30 shots he faced to record his seventh shutout of the season in a 4-0 Montreal win over Florida at BankAtlantic Center.Price also reached the 30-win plateau for the first time in his career with his third victory in four starts.
"I thought we looked pretty solid tonight," Price said. "We were playing good two-way hockey."
Hal Gill, David Desharnais and Lars Eller lit the lamp for the Canadiens, winners of three straight and four of five.
Tomas Vokoun was pulled after allowing two goals on three shots, leaving Scott Clemmensen to finish the game by yielding two more scores for the Panthers, who have lost three in a row and five of six.
"We had to make a change. We're not going to score more than two or three goals, so if we're down 2-0 early we have to do something to close the door," Panthers head coach Peter DeBoer said.
Gill notched his first goal of the year on a low blast from the left point to get the Habs on the board just after the five-minute mark of the first, then Andrei Kostitsyn made it 2-0 at 8:54 with a high shot from the bottom of the left circle.
Desharnais gave Montreal a three-goal edge at 4:59 of the second period by beating Clemmensen with a weak backhander.
Eller provided a four-goal cushion thanks to another backhander at 3:21 of the third period.
