Flames down Stars in shootout

Mar 10, 2011 - 5:21 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Curtis Glencross scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout, lifting the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Rene Bourque, Tom Kostopoulos and Anton Babchuk lit the lamp for the Flames, who have won three in a row. Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves.

Mike Ribeiro, Jamie Benn and Tomas Vincour had the goals for the Stars, who have recorded at least one point in seven consecutive games. Kari Lehtonen also turned aside 31 shots. Vincour's tally was his first NHL goal.

The Flames' Alex Tanguay was the second shooter to go and whipped a wrister by Lehtonen to the glove side.

After both teams were unsuccessful in the second round, Ribeiro used a twist of his body to throw Kiprusoff's timing off and scored. But Glencross snapped a shot in net to give the Flames the win.

Calgary built a 3-0 lead in a just a little more than three minutes during the first period.

Bourque fired a hard wrister through traffic from the left circle at 10:26, and Kostopoulos tapped in a rebound from the top of the crease only 62 seconds later.

Then, at 13:41, Babchuk lit the lamp on a rocket from the right point.

However, Benn got the Stars on the board during a power play with 1:32 left in the opening period, and Ribeiro scored the only goal of the second. His wrister from the slot during an odd-man rush made it a 3-2 game at 5:12.

Early in the third period, Vincour unleashed a wrister from the left circle as he spun toward the net. It squeezed between Kiprusoff's shoulder and the upper left corner of the goal frame, pulling the Stars even.
