Final
Halak, Blues blank Kings
Mar 18, 2011 - 6:31 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jaroslav Halak needed to stop only 17 shots to record his fifth shutout of the season as St. Louis topped Los Angeles, 4-0, at Staples Center.Matt D'Agostini scored twice and both Alex Pietrangelo and T.J. Oshie once each for the Blues, who snapped a two-game slide by winning for the fourth straight time in LA.
"There were some moments there where they had pressure around our net and he was big, he was at the top of his crease, he was challenging," said Blues head coach Davis Payne about his winning netminder.
Jonathan Quick yielded all four goals on 39 shots for the Kings, whose four- game win streak came to a halt as the club was blanked on home ice for the first time since January 20.
D'Agostini put the Blues on the board with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first period off a rebound, then provided a 2-0 lead for the visitors with seven seconds left in the middle stanza with a shot from near the goal line on the right wing.
Pietrangelo made it 3-0 just over five minutes into the third when he cranked up a shot a stride over the red line that rose off the ice at the last second and beat Quick to the far post.
Oshie tallied the fourth St. Louis goal with 7:21 left, when his backhander from the left circle was partially muted but still floated by Quick on the far side.
"There's nothing to explain. We had nothing going on, there was no energy, we were totally out-played," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "We had six shots after two periods. We're coming off an incredible road trip, the tank is empty. There's nothing to talk about."
