Lydman, Ducks down Flames in OT

Mar 21, 2011 - 4:13 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Toni Lydman scored with 2:22 to play in overtime to lift the Anaheim Ducks to a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames.

After Bobby Ryan was stopped on a penalty shot, Ryan Getzlaf won a left circle faceoff by kicking the puck back to Lydman, who one-timed the puck past Henrik Karlsson for the win.

The Western Conference playoff race remains tight, as Anaheim sits in the eighth spot with 85 points, while Calgary is in 10th with 84. Anaheim has 10 games remaining and Calgary has eight.

Getzlaf finished with one goal and three assists, Teemu Selanne had a goal and two assists, while Corey Perry added a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who have won three straight and five of six. Dan Ellis stopped 37 shots in the win.

"There was no panic on the bench," Perry said. "We knew we were making some mistakes that were uncharacteristic of ourselves. When you do you give up four goals, you don't feel good about yourself. There was still a positive attitude on bench. We scored three quick ones in the first and we knew could come back."

Tom Kostopoulos had two goals and an assist for the Flames, who have lost four of their last five. Miikka Kiprusoff was tagged for three goals on five shots before being pulled for Karlsson, who stopped 26-of-28 shots.

"There's not much to think about. You just go in and do your best, and try to take the next puck every time," Karlsson said. "Of course, it's a little bit tougher when you get thrown in like that. But you just do your best. I felt pretty confident right away. I don't know what to say, it's just really disappointing."

Anaheim scored just 1:18 into the contest on Getzlaf's 18th goal of the season, then made it a 2-0 game two minutes later, when Perry stuffed the puck into the net for a power-play marker.

At the 5:49 mark of the first, Francois Beauchemin blasted a shot from the left point that beat Kiprusoff cleanly, chasing the goaltender from the net.

Calgary got one back with 1:08 to play in the first, when Matt Stajan passed from the left corner to the low left circle for a Kostopoulos one-timer.

The Flames made it a 3-2 game 8:04 into the second, when a hard pass from Curtis Glencross at the right corner to the left side was directed in by Rene Bourque.

A slap shot by Steve Staios at the left point was tipped in by Kostopoulos with 3:16 to play in the second, tying the game.

The Flames took a 4-3 lead 7:10 into the third on the power play, as a snap shot from the left circle by Jarome Iginla sailed past Ellis.

Anaheim, though, tied the game on the power play with 2:01 to play in regulation, when Getzlaf's slap shot from the left point was redirected in by Selanne.
