Stars blank Blue Jackets for much-needed win

Apr 6, 2011 - 3:55 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Kari Lehtonen tallied a 23-save shutout as Dallas downed Columbus, 3-0, in a must-win game for the Stars.

The Stars kept their playoff hopes alive with 91 points in the Western Conference, just two behind eighth-place Chicago, which lost in Montreal on Tuesday.

Brenden Morrow, Loui Eriksson and Steve Ott all tallied for the Stars, who snapped an 0-3-3 skid on Sunday with a 4-3 victory at Anaheim and have won back-to-back-games for the first time since March 5 and 7.

Mathieu Garon allowed one goal on 28 shots for the playoff-eliminated Blue Jackets, who had won four of their last five against Dallas.

Dallas got the all-important first goal just five minutes into the game and on the power play. It was Ott's tip off of Brad Richards' blast that found the back of the net.

From there, Dallas played shutdown defense while holding the Blue Jackets to five shots in the second period and eight in the third.

Dallas tacked on two empty-net goals in the final minute of regulation to ice the game. Eriksson had the first for his 25th goal of the season and Morrow got the second for his 30th.
