Ehrhoff's OT tally lifts Canucks over Flames

Apr 10, 2011 - 7:12 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Christian Ehrhoff scored 2:41 into overtime to finish Vancouver's 3-2 comeback win over Calgary in the teams' regular-season finale.

Alexandre Burrows and Ryan Kesler had third-period goals to send the game into the extra period and help end Vancouver's season with club single-season records of 54 wins (54-19-9) and 117 points.

The Canucks, who also captured their first Presidents' Trophy this season, got 34 saves from Cory Schneider.

"Our expectations going into this season were very high," said Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. "We took it one game at a time and we focused on our game and our play, and that's what we're going to do come the playoffs."

Mikael Backlund and Jarome Iginla tallied for the Flames, who had a three-game win streak snapped and ended the season out of the playoff picture with a 41-29-12 record. Henrik Karlsson made 36 saves in the loss.

Vancouver scored early in the third period when Daniel Sedin skated around the net and snapped a shot from a harsh angle. The puck slipped behind Karlsson and Burrows chipped the puck into the open net.

The game was then tied with 7:55 left to play in regulation on Kesler's 41st goal of the season. The Sedin brothers set up the power-play goal with Henrik Sedin slipping the puck to Kesler for a slap shot in the high slot.

"In the third period, we sat back a bit and they came at us pretty good," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter.

The teams then headed into overtime with Vancouver applying most of the pressure and holding the Flames shotless.

Finally, Alexander Edler pushed to puck to Ehrhoff, who sent a one-time blast from the point that skirted between Karlsson's legs.

After a scoreless first period, Iginla put the home team on the board first with a snap shot from the lower left circle.

Calgary scored again in the second at the 11:27 mark. This time it was Backlund, who collected a Mark Giordano pass, skated into the slot and jammed one past Schneider.
