Kings make Quick work of Sharks

Apr 17, 2011 - 6:46 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick was perfect between the pipes and Drew Doughty scored twice and assisted on Los Angeles' other two goals, as the Kings took Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series with the San Jose Sharks, 4-0, in dominating fashion.

Quick made 42 saves in Game 1, but let up Joe Pavelski's overtime winner to lose, 3-2. The 25-year-old netminder was up to the task on Saturday, however, stopping all 34 shots he faced to send the series back to Los Angeles tied at a game apiece.

"I got a lot of help from the 20 guys in the locker room," a humble Quick said.

Jack Johnson and Kyle Clifford each had a goal and an assist in the win.

Antti Niemi made only 19 saves for the Sharks, who failed to score on five power-play opportunities.

Game 3 will take place at Staples Center on Tuesday.

The Kings took control with a pair of power-play goals in the opening period.

With Sharks forward Ben Eager in the penalty box for slashing, Johnson let loose a slap shot from the left point that surprised a screened Niemi at the 12:13 mark.

Less than two minutes later, Doughty drew a penalty on Ryane Clowe, then was left all alone between the circles when the Sharks were caught in a sloppy line change. His slap shot with 4:17 remaining made it 2-0.

"To come out and dominate a game like that was huge for us," Doughty said.

Los Angeles killed off a penalty late in the second, and made it a three-goal game thanks to Doughty, who again was left uncovered at the point and used a delayed slap shot to beat Niemi between his pads at 15:42.

The HP Pavilion crowd was taken completely out of it -- if they hadn't been already -- 4:54 into the third when Clifford took Brad Richardson's pass from behind the net and back-handed it in.

The Kings were satisfied protecting their four-goal lead the rest of the game, and the lifeless Sharks allowed them do to so.

"If we don't have anger or a bit of shame ... I would be extremely disappointed," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said of his team's attitude following its poor effort.

Game Notes

The Kings won despite being without 20-goal scorer Jarret Stoll, who was suspended one game for his hit from behind on San Jose defenseman Ian White during Thursday's loss...This is the first time the Sharks and Kings are meeting in the postseason.
