Bolland leads Blackhawks past Stars
Oct 9, 2011 - 6:04 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dave Bolland had two goals to help the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Dallas Stars, 5-2, in the finale of a home-and-home series.Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who lost to these Stars by a 2-1 margin on Friday in Dallas. Andrew Brunette and Jonathan Toews also lit the lamp.
Corey Crawford made 19 saves for the victors.
"I thought we had a lot more energy and made better decisions with the puck," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. "We had a little more patience with it."
Vernon Fiddler and Steve Ott each had a goal for Dallas, which got 26 saves from Andrew Raycroft.
"We've got 80 games left now," Raycroft said. "There's a whole lot of hockey to be played."
Brunette's power-play goal at the 8:06 mark of the first period gave Chicago an early lead. Sharp's shot from the left circle was deflected in by Brunette.
Bolland's snap shot from the top of the left circle at the 7:39 mark of the second stanza made it 2-0.
Chicago added to its margin at the 11:22 mark. Brent Seabrook made a great pass to Toews, who completed a breakaway with a wrister.
Fiddler got the Stars on the board just over a minute later. Fiddler roofed a shot over Crawford's glove from the bottom of the left circle to make it 3-1.
At the 5:10 mark of the third period, Sharp got away from a defender near center ice to set up a 2-on-1 rush. Sharp kept things in his own hands with a shot past Raycroft.
Ott made it a two-goal game again at the 10:07 mark. Sheldon Souray's shot from the top of the right circle was deflected in by Ott.
Bolland added an empty-net goal with under two minutes remaining to make it 5-2.
Game Notes
The Stars had won four straight against Chicago...Dallas played without defensemen Nicklas Grossman (groin) and Adam Pardy (rib)...Bolland missed Friday's game with an upper body injury.
