Bruins sign RW Shawn Thornton

Jul 1, 2007 - 9:17 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Thornton will be back in the black and gold of the Boston Bruins. Unfortunately for the team's fans, it's not the Thornton they want.

After acquiring goaltender Manny Fernandez earlier in the day, the Bruins on Sunday signed right wing Shawn Thornton to a multi-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

No relation to former Bruins captain Joe, Shawn Thornton was a member of the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks last season. The rugged 29-year-old recorded two goals, seven assists and 88 penalty minutes in 48 regular-season games before collecting 19 penalty minutes in 15 contests during the playoffs.

A seventh-round pick of Toronto in 1997, Shawn Thornton has collected four tallies, 12 points and 158 penalty minutes in 79 career games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Ducks.
