Avalanche re-sign Rycroft; add two defensemen

Jul 17, 2007 - 8:37 PM DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday re-signed right wing Mark Rycroft to a one-year contract.

The Avalanche also signed free-agent defensemen Jeff Jillson and Dale Purinton to one-year contracts.

Financial terms were not disclosed for any of the three deals.

Rycroft, 27, appeared in 66 games last season and recorded six goals and six assists.

"Mark is a hard-working player who provides energy to our roster," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said.

Jillson, 26, was a first-round draft choice of the San Jose Sharks in 1999. The 6-3, 220-pound native of North Smithfield, Rhode Island is a veteran of 140 NHL games with the Sharks, Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres.

Purinton, 30, is a veteran of 181 games, all with the New York Rangers.

"Dale adds a measure of size and toughness to our organization's depth chart, and Jeff brings offensive ability from the blue line," Avalanche assistant general manager Greg Sherman said. "They each have a solid balance of experience both at the American Hockey League and NHL levels."
