Jets end skid, score 7 in rout of Stars
Mar 17, 2014 - 4:09 AM Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Dustin Byfuglien had two goals and one assist and was one of four Winnipeg Jets with at least three points in a 7-2 rout of the Dallas Stars on Sunday.Jacob Trouba, Michael Frolik, Tobias Enstrom, Olli Jokinen and Evander Kane also scored as Winnipeg snapped a six-game losing streak (0-3-3) with a big showing to end a three-game homestand.
The Jets scored six unanswered goals after falling behind 2-1 in the first period when Alex Chiasson and Tyler Seguin scored in a 37-second span for Dallas.
Jokinen and Enstrom added two assists each and Blake Wheeler had four helpers.
Al Montoya, who came in when Ondrej Pavelec was hurt Friday against the Rangers, made 25 saves and didn't need nearly that many behind Winnipeg's offensive barrage.
"These guys battled for me," said Montoya. "This is what they pay me for. I've been waiting for this chance."
The Jets scored their first four goals on 17 shots against Tim Thomas, who was pulled after 20 1/2 minutes. Cristopher Nilstorp gave up three goals on 17 shots after that for the Stars, who had a four-game point streak snapped (3-0-1).
Chaisson and Seguin's goals erased Trouba's for the Jets earlier in the first period but Winnipeg stormed back.
Frolik scored on his own rebound at 11:54 of the first after a Dallas turnover and Enstrom gave the Jets the lead for good on a one-timer with 2:58 left in the period.
Jokinen made several dekes in front of the crease to beat Thomas, chasing the Stars goalie out of the game. Byfuglien scored the only power play goal on six chances for Winnipeg to make it 5-2 with 3:30 left in the second period.
Byfuglien added a rebound goal 3:14 into the third and Kane scored on a deke to his backhand 4:19 later.
"We're not playing the right way," Stars forward Jamie Benn said. "Tonight we just got outworked start to finish."
Game Notes
Dallas was 0-for-2 on the power play ... The Jets will play at St. Louis on Monday ... The Stars continue a three-game road trip on Tuesday at Pittsburgh. They are 1-1-1 since forward Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench last Monday. Peverley, who was released from the hospital last week, won't play again this season and will soon undergo a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat.
