Stars take down Sens to stop 4-game skid

Mar 22, 2014 - 11:47 PM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Daley and Jamie Benn found the net in the third period as the Dallas Stars scored three unanswered goals to snap a four-game losing streak, beating the Ottawa Senators 3-1 on Saturday.

Daley's go-ahead goal came 4:52 into the period and Benn scored just over two minutes later, lifting Dallas to its first win in 11 days.

The Stars, who haven't made the playoffs since 2008, returned home from an 0-3 road trip and entered play Saturday four points behind Phoenix for the last wild card spot in the Western Conference.

"This time of the year, every win is important," said Daley. "We're kind of behind the 8-ball but tonight put some smiles back on our faces."

Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for Dallas and was perfect after letting in Erik Karlsson's one-timer from the slot 3:27 into the game on an Ottawa rush.

The Senators have lost a season-high six games in a row and are 4-9-3 in their last 16.

"We started pretty well," said Karlsson. "We got the lead but couldn't really follow through until the end there and they had a couple of nice goals to finish it off. I think we battled hard and our competing level was there, but unfortunately we just couldn't put the puck in the net."

The teams each had 11 penalties for 28 minutes and were a combined 0-for-9 on power plays.

Dallas went 0-for-5 but tied the game when Eakin scored with 4:53 left in the second period by poking the puck into the net from underneath Robin Lehner after the Ottawa goalie had stopped a slashing try by Valeri Nichushkin.

Lehner faced 44 shots. He stopped an initial try by Ray Whitney early in the third period but the Stars winger got his own rebound and passed back to Daley, who scored from the left circle at 4:52 to give Dallas a 2-1 lead.

Tyler Seguin set up Benn's goal at the 6:58 mark, racing down the right side and finding his teammate in the left circle for a snap shot and 3-1 score.
