Ducks aim to build momentum in Calgary

Mar 26, 2014 - 3:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks continue their chase of the Pacific Division's top spot on Wednesday night when they take on a Calgary Flames team that has taken to its role of spoiler.

The Ducks have won just three times over their last nine games (3-4-2) and that has dropped the club four points back of the San Jose Sharks for the division lead, but with three games in hand.

Anaheim put a four-game winless stretch at home to rest on Sunday night with a big 6-2 win over the Florida Panthers, getting goals from six different skaters.

The Ducks' top line of Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne all had a goal, with the former two notching a pair of helpers and the veteran Selanne adding one assist.

Getzlaf notched his career-high 30th goal of the season and recorded the 600th point of his career. That is the third most in franchise history, trailing only Paul Kariya (669 points) and Selanne (985 points).

"Tonight, things were clicking better. We played with the puck more and that was the big thing," Getzlaf said of his line. "The biggest thing for me, when I have Teemu on my line, is I want to get him the puck all the time instead of holding on to it a little bit at first.

Jonas Hiller made 28 saves for the Ducks, who also got a goal and an assist from Patrick Maroon before he left with a lower-body injury.

Anaheim can't afford to look past Calgary, which has won five of its last seven games. That span began with a 7-2 home victory over the Ducks, the Flames' fourth in their last five as the host in this series.

Mikael Backlund scored twice and had an assist in the win, while Mark Giordano also scored and set up another goal.

The five-goal win was just the Flames' fourth in their last 14 versus the Ducks overall.

Calgary has scored at least four goals in four of its last seven games and has 15 in its last three games. The Flames followed up an 8-1 win over Edmonton with Monday's 2-1 shootout decision versus the Sharks.

Joe Colborne scored in regulation and Mike Cammalleri had the winner in the third round of the tiebreaker. Karri Ramo posted 33 shots through overtime, then sealed the win with a stop on San Jose's James Sheppard.

"We played the total team game," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "I know that Karri Ramo played well, brought us some big saves at the right time, but to pick one player of the game tonight, we could have a long list. I felt that it was a real solid team effort."

Ramo may start again tonight and is 1-0-0 with a 2.64 goals against average lifetime versus the Ducks in two games with one start.

Hiller is 5-5-1 with a 3.01 GAA in his career when facing the Flames.
