Habs keep rolling, make short work of Panthers
Mar 30, 2014 - 3:58 AM Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Max Pacioretty scored twice to back 36 saves from Carey Price, as Montreal emerged with a 4-1 victory over Florida on Saturday."It's a good feeling. I haven't been able to score against this team so it's nice to come into this building a put a few on the board," Pacioretty said about breaking his 16-game scoring drought against Florida.
Thomas Vanek and David Desharnais added a goal and one assist apiece for the Canadiens, who won their fifth in a row and eighth in the last nine.
Brad Boyes talled and Dan Ellis stopped only 15 shots for the Panthers, losers in nine of their last 12.
"They capitalized on their chances," Boyes said. "They're a good team. I don't think they played their best, but they found a way to win."
The Canadiens picked up the first goal of the contest, as a Vanek fired away from below the circles and followed up by poking his own rebound over the goal line at 10:47 of the first period.
Pacioretty waited at the right post to tap home an Alexei Emelin feed and it was 2-0 inside of three minutes remaining.
Montreal assumed a three-goal edge when Pacioretty redirected a Desharnais dish at the left post with six minutes left in the second, before Boyes beat Price to the near post from the right circle to get the hosts on the board for a 3-1 game at 16:09.
Price made that two-goal edge hold up with 15 saves in the third, and Desharnais hit the empty net with 23.8 seconds to play.
"They played really well again tonight," Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien said. "The chemistry is there; they are having a lot of fun playing together and it worked out again tonight."
