Blue Jackets top Hurricanes in OT

Mar 30, 2014 - 2:52 AM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Johansen's power-play goal 2:40 into overtime lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Johansen got a wrist shot through Anton Khudobin from the slot just 46 seconds after Jiri Tlusty went off for covering the puck with his hand in the Carolina zone.

Matt Calvert and Artem Anisimov also scored for the Blue Jackets, who rallied from one-goal deficits twice and won for the second time in five games. Curtis McElhinney made 25 saves in his second straight start while Sergei Bobrovsky gets over the flu.

Columbus entered Saturday locked in a four-way tie with Detroit, Washington and Toronto for the Eastern Conference's two wild-card spots and kept its place. Washington lost and Detroit beat Toronto.

Blue Jackets defenseman Dalton Prout said it was important to appreciate the win but not dwell on it with eight games remaining in the regular season. The Blue Jackets are off until Tuesday's home game against Colorado.

"Starting tomorrow and the day after we have to move on," Prout said.

Jeff Skinner and Andrei Loktionov scored for the Hurricanes, who were coming off a 3-0 win over the Panthers on Thursday. They haven't posted back-to-back wins in over two weeks.

"We talked before the game that it was going to be a 60-minute game, or 60 minutes-plus, and it was," said Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller. "I thought we played well. It was a playoff-style game."

Loktionov's power play goal on a wrister from the right circle made it 2-1 for the Hurricanes 6:38 into the third period.

But for the second time in the game the Blue Jackets struck back quickly when Anisimov scored 50 seconds later on a backhand in front of Khudobin, who let a sharp-angle attempt from Nathan Horton slide past him in the crease.

Khudobin finished with 29 saves.

The game -- scoreless for 36 1/2 minutes and without a penalty until the third -- breezed along.

Skinner made it 1-0 after he collected a rebound on the low right side and roofed a shot into the top of the net.

The Blue Jackets tied it just 2:17 later when Calvert scored on a wrist shot from the right circle after a Carolina turnover.

The first penalty wasn't called until Columbus' Boone Jenner was sent off for interference 64 seconds into the third period.

Game Notes
