Quick sets franchise mark as Kings blank Sabres

Oct 24, 2014 - 5:57 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick registered his second shutout of the season and 33rd of his career as the Los Angeles Kings blanked the Buffalo Sabres, 2-0, on Thursday.

Quick, who stopped all 29 shots sent his way, passed Rogie Vachon for the most shutouts in franchise history.

"I think he was solid," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said of Quick. "He made the saves when he had to, covered pucks well, and played the pucks well with his defenseman."

Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist and Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings, who have won five straight on their six-game homestand.

The Sabres, meanwhile, continue to struggle on the young season. Buffalo has lost four straight, including seven of eight games overall, and it has been shutout in three of the last four.

Jhonas Enroth made 37 saves in the setback.

"Our last couple of games, our effort has been a lot better," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said.

Los Angeles has killed off 17 straight penalties over its winning streak, while the Sabres have yet to score with the man advantage this season. Buffalo is now 0-for-27 on the power play through eight games.

The Kings wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Carter wristed a shot past Enroth on the power play just 36 seconds into the game.

Los Angeles added another goal on the power play with 4:49 left in the second. Carter received a pass from Kopitar, who then took a feed from Carter in the slot and one-timed the puck through Enroth's five-hole to make it 2-0.

Quick nailed down the record by turning aside all 13 shots he faced in the third as the Kings and Sabres continue to head in opposite directions.
