Kings strike back at Ducks, snag OT win

Nov 16, 2014 - 12:53 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarret Stoll scored on a power play at 2:19 of overtime to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

The Kings went on the man advantage 23 seconds into the extra session when Anaheim defenseman Hampus Lindholm was called for hooking.

As the power play was winding down, Justin Williams led a rush down the left wing and dished out front to Stoll, who slid the puck between the pads of Frederik Andersen.

Tyler Toffoli scored his fourth shorthanded goal of the season and Anze Kopitar added a power-play goal in the third period for the Kings, who snapped a two-game slide that included a 6-5 shootout loss at Anaheim on Wednesday.

Jonathan Quick made 27 saves in the winning effort, while Andersen stopped 34 shots.

Ryan Kesler and Emerson Etem scored for Anaheim, which has seen its last five games be decided beyond regulation. The Ducks are 3-0-4 in their last seven games overall.

The Kings finished several heavy checks during a scoreless first period.

"We came out and did a lot of things. We've been spending a lot of time in the defensive zone. Today, we came out and we were physical and we were getting pucks in deep," Stoll said.

Anaheim opened the scoring 8:38 into the second period when Etem used the backhand to chip in Patrick Maroon's pass from behind the net.

Pressure by the visitors later resulted in Los Angeles defenseman Matt Greene intentionally dislodging the net. The Kings, not the Ducks, scored on the ensuing power play.

The right-handed shooting Toffoli had the puck on a 2-on-1 with Stoll and fired a wrist shot from the left circle past Andersen's blocker with 3:23 remaining in the second.

Kesler, whose mistake at the point triggered the odd-man rush, put the Ducks back on top a little over two minutes later. Positioned at the bottom of the right circle, Kesler gathered Bryan Allen's feed from the left point, spun and fired the puck over a sprawled Quick with 1:16 left.

The Kings tied the game at 9:25 of the third period with another goal from their special teams. With Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf off for goaltender interference, the hosts quickly moved the puck around the zone before Kopitar beat Andersen on a one-timer from the top of the right circle.

"I think their second goal was a good play," Kesler said. "Good players make good plays. We could have had better sticks but they made a good play on that one."

Game Notes

Toffoli became the fastest Kings player to score four shorthanded goals in team history, reaching the total in 18 games. Toffoli is also the fastest to four shorthanded goals since Simon Gagne had four in his first 15 games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2008-09 season ... Anaheim forward Devante Smith-Pelly missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury. The Ducks were already without forward Corey Perry and defenseman Francois Beauchemin, who are recovering from the mumps ... Defenseman Robyn Regehr returned to the Los Angeles lineup after missing three games with an undisclosed injury.
