Senators hit the road to battle Red Wings

Nov 24, 2014 - 3:37 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Ottawa Senators will try to start up a five-game road trip on a positive note on Monday night as they visit the Detroit Red Wings.

The Sens will play 11 of their next 15 on the road and are 4-4-1 as the visiting team this season. They are 2-3-2 in their past seven games overall following a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Mika Zibanejad and Erik Karlsson tallied for the Senators, who were held to just five shots in the third period. Robin Lehner made 30 saves.

"We definitely had a chance there at the end to tie it up. We got some quality scoring chances, but they just wouldn't go in," said Karlsson. "We played good against a team that is one of the best in the league."

Both center Curtis Lazar and defenseman Chris Phillips did not play on Saturday because of undisclosed injuries and their status for this game is unknown.

With Lehner having made two straight starts, the Senators could go back to Craig Anderson tonight. He is 4-5-0 with a 2.72 goals against average and .922 save percentage in his career versus the Red Wings.

Detroit will play two straight and six of its next seven at home. The Red Wings won the first two of a three-game swing, but lost Saturday's finale in Toronto 4-1 as the Maple Leafs scored three times in the third period.

Tomas Tatar had a goal and Jimmy Howard posted 24 saves in defeat.

"We just couldn't get much going out there," said Tatar. "They had a pretty good plan and we had trouble breaking through."

Tatar has five goals and two assists over a five-game point streak.

Though Pavel Datsyuk remains questionable with a lingering groin injury, center Stephen Weiss was recalled from his conditioning loan in the American Hockey League on Sunday. He played in two games during the assignment and scored twice.

The Red Wings split four meetings with the Senators a season ago, then lost the first meeting between the clubs this season 3-1 in Ottawa on Nov. 4. Karlsson had a goal and an assist for the Sens, while Anderson made 31 saves.

Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Red Wings and Howard made 29 saves, falling to 3-3-0 in his career versus the Sens wit ha 3.44 GAA and .890 save percentage.

The Senators have won two straight in Detroit.
