Final
Lupul, Maple Leafs top Stars
Dec 3, 2014 - 6:41 AM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Joffrey Lupul scored twice to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.Nazem Kadri finished with a goal and two assists, Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel also scored and Mike Santorelli tallied three assists for the Maple Leafs, who have won two straight games and four of five.
Jonathan Bernier stopped 35-of-38 shots in the win.
"When you score that many goals, its hard mentally to stay sharp," Bernier said. "We got the two points and that's what matters."
Jason Spezza, Ryan Garbutt and Ales Hemsky each lit the lamp and Kari Lehtonen made 35 stops for the Stars, who dropped their third consecutive game.
"That's disappointing," Lehtonen said. "I can't let five goals in every night."
The Maple Leafs got off to a quick start as Bozak made it 1-0 game 27 seconds into the contest.
Dion Phaneuf kept Trevor Daley's clear attempt in the Dallas zone and Bozak gathered the loose puck, drifted across the slot and unleashed a wrister past Lehtonen for the early lead.
Kadri added to Toronto's lead with a wrister from the left circle with 4:44 to play in the first period.
Toronto scored within the first minute of a period once again in the second as Kessel's wrist shot on the power play 56 seconds into the stanza.
Spezza's slap shot from the top of the right circle got Dallas on the board at 5:06, but Lupul restored the Maple Leafs' three-goal lead midway through the stanza with a wrister.
Bernier made an initial pad save on Alex Goligoski's blast, but Garbutt was there to sneak the rebound into the net for a 4-2 score 2:11 into the third.
Lupul answered again less than three minutes later with a snap shot, but Hemsky's snap shot with under five minutes remaining capped the scoring.
