Penguins wrap up homestand against Bruins

Jan 7, 2015 - 3:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins hope to get back on track Wednesday night when they conclude a four-game homestand against the Boston Bruins.

The Penguins defeated Carolina and Tampa Bay to begin the residency, a pair of victories that followed a four-game slide. However, Pittsburgh was unable to keep its winning streak going as it was defeated 4-1 by the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Marc-Andre Fleury gave up all four goals on 33 shots in defeat, while David Perron scored in his Penguins debut. He was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers on Friday for forward Rob Klinkhammer and a 2015 first-round draft pick.

Perron's tally came with 10:01 left in the opening period and the Pens down two goals as he converted a feed from Sidney Crosby.

"That was probably the best pass I've ever received," said Perron. "I had a good portion of the net to put it in."

While the Penguins are working Perron into their offense, they may get defenseman Paul Martin back in the lineup tonight. He has missed the previous eight games with an undisclosed injury, but has been able to work on the ice over the past few days.

"I feel good, I feel great today," Martin told Pittsburgh's website on Tuesday. "The last three or four days I haven't had any issues. My focus is on (Wednesday) and with the option of playing if everything checks out well today."

Fleury figures to get the call tonight and is 12-6-3 lifetime versus the Bruins with a 2.30 goals against average and .923 save percentage. He made 27 saves to earn his 300th career win on Nov. 24 in the first of three meetings with the Bruins this season, a 3-2 overtime victory in Boston.

Evgeni Malkin scored the winner 32 seconds into overtime, while Crosby had a goal and two assists in the Penguins' eighth victory in 10 games over the Bruins.

They have won four straight as the host in this series.

Milan Lucic and Joe Morrow had the goals for the Bruins in the November defeat, while Tuukka Rask made 30 saves as he fell to 3-5-1 with a 2.69 GAA and .907 save percentage in his career versus the Pens.

Rask made 35 saves in Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, but was bested for the lone tally of the tiebreaker as Boston lost its third straight -- all past regulation.

"When things aren't going your way, you try to do too much instead of going back to basics and the foundation of your game," said Rask. "It's not like the skill is gone, it's just mental."

Patrice Bergeron scored in defeat, but his attempt in the shootout to extend the game was turned aside.

The Bruins return home to host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
