Bolts hope to get on track vs. lowly Oilers

Jan 15, 2015 - 4:00 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Lightning will try to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season on Thursday night as they play host to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Bolts will play for the third time in four nights having lost consecutive games to Philadelphia and Boston to begin the week. They were routed 7-3 by the Flyers on Monday, then dropped a 4-3 decision to the Bruins the following night.

Tampa Bay has lost two in a row for the first time since another set of back- to-back games on Dec. 19-20.

The Lightning got a pair of goals from Steven Stamkos versus the Bruins, while Ryan Callahan also scored for a Lightning club that still leads the Montreal Canadiens by one point for first place in the Atlantic Division.

"We've just got to get back to the structure," Callahan said. "We had lapses, mistakes. You're going to have those throughout the season, but you have to realize it as quick as possible and not let it slide on you and not let it snowball."

Ben Bishop surrendered four goals on 34 shots in having a five-decision win streak halted as the Lightning played without leading scorer Tyler Johnson (46 points) and defenseman Victor Hedman. Both sustained lower-body injuries versus the Flyers.

The Oilers come to town riding a club-record 13-game skid on the road. They are 0-7-6 as the guest since picking up a victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 9.

Edmonton's struggles on the road continued Tuesday night with a 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Benoit Pouliot scored twice, Derek Roy had an assist and Ben Scrivens yielded four goals on 29 shots.

"They're one of the best teams in the league for a reason and you don't want to fall behind them," said Pouliot of the Blues. "We started out slow and they took it to us."

Pouliot has a goal in three straight games, while Roy has five points over his past three contests and seven in eight games since joining Edmonton following a trade with Nashville.

The Oilers also are set to visit Florida and Washington on a four-game swing.

Edmonton has won two straight and five of its past seven versus the Lightning, but has lost four of its previous five trips to Tampa.

The Oilers recorded a 3-2 victory at home over the Bolts on Oct. 20 as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the go-ahead goal with 3:25 to play and Scrivens made 22 saves.

Bishop allowed three goals on 23 shots, falling to 2-1-0 lifetime versus the Oilers with a 1.97 goals against average and .942 save percentage with one shutout.

Scrivens is 3-1-0 lifetime when facing Tampa Bay, posting a 2.83 GAA and .884 save percentage in five games (4 starts).
