Jets eye 4th straight win in clash with Coyotes

Jan 18, 2015 - 3:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets try to push their winning streak to a season-high four straight games on Friday night when they play host to the Arizona Coyotes.

The Jets matched their best run of three straight wins set from Nov. 1-4 with Friday night's 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Chris Thorburn and Bryan Little scored 28 seconds apart in the third period, while Michael Hutchinson made 31 saves.

Andrew Ladd and Zach Bogosian both posted a goal and an assist, while Blake Wheeler and Dustin Byfuglien notched a pair of assists each as Winnipeg won in Chicago for the third time in as many trips this season.

The Jets pulled within two points of the Blackhawks for third place in the Central Division.

"This team seems to always bring out the best in us," said Ladd. "They're a really good club over there and if you give them time they'll make you pay. I thought we did a good job of holding them in check."

Forward Mathieu Perreault could miss this game with an upper-body injury sustained when he took a cross-check to the arm from the Blackhawks' Daniel Carcillo.

While the Jets are aiming to post their longest winning streak of the season, the Coyotes hope to avoid a season high-tying fifth loss in a row tonight. They dropped five straight from Dec. 2-13.

Arizona kicked off an eight-game road trip on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild, shut down by former goaltender Devan Dubnyk and his 25 saves.

Dubnyk, who was coming off an 18-save shutout in his Wild debut on Thursday, was acquired by Minnesota from Arizona on Wednesday in exchange for a 2015 third-round draft pick.

Antoine Vermette scored and Mike Smith gave up two goals on 32 shots for the Coyotes, who have been outscored 15-4 over their four-game slide.

"We had stretches where I thought we competed very hard and stretches were I thought we weren't very competitive," said Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett.

Arizona was without captain Shane Doan for a second straight game due to a lower-body injury, though he could return to action tonight.

The Coyotes had lost five straight in this series before a 4-1 win over the Jets in Arizona on Jan. 8. Mikkel Boedker had two goals and an assist, while Doan notched a goal and two helpers.

Smith posted 34 saves, while Ondrej Pavelec gave up four goals on 30 shots for the Jets and Perreault scored.

The Jets have won all three home games versus the Coyotes since relocating to Winnipeg.
