Hiller, Flames take down Sharks

Feb 5, 2015 - 6:42 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonas Hiller stopped 28 shots and three different Calgary players lit the lamp as the Flames claimed a 3-1 victory over San Jose at the Saddledome.

Kris Russell, Jiri Hudler and Mason Raymond scored for the Flames, winners of three straight and eight of their last 10.

"I thought we were good for 60 minutes ... It was a good team effort," Russell said.

John Scott recorded the lone goal and Alex Stalock made 20 saves for the Sharks, who have lost two in a row after winning three in succession.

"It was a big two points we kind of let go there. We've just got to regroup and get to tomorrow," Scott said.

Russell netted his first goal of the season at 9:28 of the second period on a low blast from the left point.

The Flames went up by two at 11:55 on Hudler's shot on a power play, a redirection of Johnny Gaudreau's centering feed from the right side of the San Jose crease.

Raymond pushed Calgary's edge to three inside of two minutes left before the intermission on a quick one-timer off a Joe Colborne cross-ice dish.

Scott brought the Sharks within two at 2:48 of the third, but Hiller stopped the other seven shots he faced. The Flames dominated play over the final 2:17 with Stalock on the bench for an extra attacker, but couldn't hit the empty net.
