Sliding Leafs host Oilers

Feb 7, 2015 - 3:58 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Maple Leafs will try yet again to put the brakes on an epic losing streak when they host the Edmonton Oilers for Saturday's battle at Air Canada Centre.

Toronto lost its 11th straight game in Friday's road test against the New Jersey Devils. The 0-10-1 stretch is the second-longest winless stretch in club history behind a 15-game slump in 1987-88 that featured 11 losses and four ties.

The Devils notched a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs at Prudential Center, as Patrik Elias scored his 400th career goal to help New Jersey coast to the win.

"Any time you lose a stretch of games like this it's going to be challenging," said Toronto defenseman Cody Franson. "I think for the most part our group has done a pretty good job, but tonight isn't one we should be proud of."

Tyler Bozak had the only goal of the game for the Maple Leafs, who have scored just 11 goals during their losing streak. James Reimer allowed all four goals on 17 shots.

The Leafs hope tonight's matchup with the Oilers can help get them back in the win column. Toronto has won five straight in this series and posted a 4-0 win in Edmonton on Oct. 29.

Toronto also has won two straight and 11 of the past 14 home encounters versus the Oilers.

Edmonton sits last in the Western Conference and is coming off Wednesday's 2-0 loss against visiting Pittsburgh.

Marc Andre-Fleury made 22 saves to post the shutout for the Penguins, while Viktor Fasth allowed both goals on 26 shots in defeat. It marked Edmonton's third loss in five games

"I think we're all spectating," Oilers interim coach Todd Nelson said. "Early on, we were just standing around watching and not dictating play."

The Oilers played Wednesday without forwards Taylor Hall and Benoit Pouliot, who missed the game with lower-body injuries. They are both questionable for tonight.

Edmonton kicks off a six-game road trip tonight and is just 5-13-7 as the visiting club this season. Next up for the Oilers is Monday's tilt in New Jersey.
