Sabres claim rare home win against Stars

Feb 8, 2015 - 6:51 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zemgus Girgensons tallied a goal and an assist as the Buffalo Sabres claimed their first home win of 2015 with a 3-2 decision over the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

Tyler Myers and Tyler Ennis also scored, Chris Stewart tied a career high with three assists and Jhonas Enroth made an impressive 38 saves for the Sabres, who won their first game at First Niagara Center since a 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders on Dec. 27.

"Jhonas stood on his head for us," Girgensons said. "We've been working hard these past few days."

Tyler Seguin and Cody Eakin each lit the lamp and John Klingberg supplied two assists in Dallas' third straight loss.

"This is a game we needed to win." said Seguin. "It's an embarrassing one to lose."

Anders Lindback, who was recalled from Texas of the AHL on Friday, stopped 21- of-24 shots in his first start since Jan. 15.

Buffalo went ahead 3-0 after Girgensons crashed the net and deposited Nikita Zadorov's cross-ice pass past Lindback at 5:59 of the second period, but Dallas stayed in the game.

Seguin scored with 4:37 to play in the middle stanza as he finished off crisp passing by wristing a shot over the shoulder of Enroth for a power-play goal.

Midway through the third, Klingberg stepped up into the slot and slid a pass to Eakin, who wristed a shot through the pads of Enroth from the left circle to make it a one-goal game.

Dallas pulled Lindback with two minutes to play, but the Sabres held off their opponents' frantic offensive push to secure the win.

The Sabres got on the board with 1:43 left in the first after Myers moved in from the point and fired a shot from the right circle that caromed off traffic in front and into the net.

Matt Moulson forced a turnover near the blue line and shuffled the puck to Stewart at the side of the net. Stewart sent a slick backhanded pass to Ennis, who wristed the puck past a diving Lindback for a 2-0 lead 43 seconds into the second.
